Dovregubben’s Nitja is a unrivalled beautiful lady.  She has proof for that. She has all the qualities that is correct to a Norwegian forest cat.

Nitja has won the European Championship – which no other Danish bred cat earlier has done. Specially distinguished she it too, that Nitja meanwhile has reached to be mother several times and therefore has had other thoughts than  her career as premium cat.. Now, one more award can join all the others.  The better title, the bigger the award. The cat room at the second floor at Amager is nearly covered with the coloured rosettes. It has not gone Nitja’s way all time to have the title in countries that has cost lots of judging and traveling to several countries. Since September last year Nitja has been judged and evaluated  at ten exhibitions in tree different countries. Normally is it enough with just nine judging for the title, but once Nitja was disqualified due to bad behavior.

That time, Birgit and Palle Larsen had traveled by train to South Germany to show the people the premium cat. But this day, Nitja could not like the Germans. And the chilly feelings was returned. The big German steward had no idea of how to handle one Nitja. He was more hefty as a Scandinavian would do. Nitja started to protest, got her foot in the elastic band round the neck and when the foot lost the elastic, it smacked the cat head.  That was too much and Nitja left all her inner feelings free… The German judge could not like that she peed at him, while he was working. The judgement was disqualification.

After this, Birgit and Palle Larsen could start their longest and most expensive travel with the cat back home. Seldom not to bring a premium rosette in the bag.

During summer, the fur of the nfo is
shor
t and just the shaggy tail shows us
that
it’s not a commonly known house cat.

Ok, I admit that it is a bit luxurious to use that much money and so much time to that your cat shall get a nice title. But we also do have fun , and at the same time it is holiday for us as well. In one case, that cat’s were a passion for the family that just would have a four legged house pet. Friends of Birgit and Palle Larsen had got their eyes up for the nfo qualities, and therefore chose it without anybody to think that it should be as big part of daily life as it became. The nfo was for the very first time accepted as international breed in 1976. That happened via one photo, because the alive article could not be imported or exported from Norway due to quarantine rules.. Today there are 3-400 of the race here home (in Denmark). During summertime where the fur is short, it is only the shaggy tail that reveal’s that can not be a normal house cat. And of course its beautiful character and says Birgit Larsen.

Cats are some incredible animals, tells Jette. In some way’s are they worse than people, she smiles.. And she knows what she is talking about. Because it is nearly ten years since Jette "married to" her first forest cat – Gustav. And since then it has continued forward. Especially the young Bjørnstierne has received a lot of attention. One year ago, he won the title as the most beautiful young cat of the year. The greatest NFO under ten months. And this year he repeated the success to win the title as Denmark’s most beautiful adult NFO.

Flatlands Bjørnstierne, a 2 years old Norwegian forest cat, that already is European champion became this weekend world winner at the big cat exhibition in Innsbruck. His weight is 6 kilos and he is brown tabby, with awarm brown pattern. The robust and charming nfo has become very popular the last few years.. In Denmark we do have some extremely nice examples. Some are – as Flatlands Bjørnstiernes – imported from Norway.  Others are Danish bred.
