The magazine
"Min
Kat"
(My cat) existed just quite a few years.
The magazine described among others the
different cat breeds.
The
NFO
was presented as this: |

|
|
The troll
cat from the Norwegian woods |

…this
beautiful
NFO,
Kvilles Isirid Skjaldemø
that is called Futte at home,
is a real winner cat...

The
NFO
has during quite a few years become extremely popular here home (in Denmark)
It looks like a mix between a “lynx” and an ordinary house cat, and with its
wild look it hypnotizes all that is fond of nature’s own inventions. The
NFO
is definitely
not a produced
breed of cat, but a type of cat who has for hundreds of years lived free in
the high/far north. |

Birgit and Palle Larsen with "Futte" |
Dovregubbens
Egil Skallargrimsson
and Kvilles Isrid Skjaldemø is
the name of the two NFO
that Birgit and Palle Larsen from Amager have lost their hearts to..
Strange names were inspired of old saga’s about the tough Vikings,
that perhaps sometimes in the past were sitting beside the fire place in
the company of a a forest cat. |
|
During many hundreds of years, the nfo has been known in
the cold tough areas far north, but its origin is still uncertain. That’s
the reason the fantasy has grown freely, and it’s many exciting ideas of
the nfo history.. Some people mean that the big, solid cat originally was
born as a mix between the "Lynx"
and a house cat. Others means say it’s from the Vikings, where it came
into being as a mix between English short hair cats and long hair cats
that the crusaders brought with them from the south. These two types of
cat have mixed into the Norwegian wild cat, and mother nature has then
removed the weak cats that could not manage to live in the tough forest
areas in the wild areas.
The NFO is
first mentioned in the book "Norske Folkeeventyr"
("Norwegian fairy tales")
that was published 150years ago. Here we find the NFO
the troll cat, that is described as a forest cat with big, shaggy tail.
This nickname is used of Norwegian Forest Cat federation in Denmark as a
title at their magazine for their members. In the 1930’s the
Norwegian people began to realize that the
NFO very soon would die out as a nature race, and
without control could continue to mix with the normal house cat. They
tried already at that time to get the nfo registered as a race cat, but
first in 1976 was the NFO accepted without
certificate status at the European cat organization fife. The approval
happened as a result of a photo, and the very first year the NFO
could join exhibitions but it had no certificate status and therefore
could not get any titles. The year after was the nfo accepted as a race
without reservation, and since then the NFO has
taken premium position.
...Today, there
is no cat breed exhibition where the forest cat do not run away with a
“best in show” title. And it was in addition a nfo that got the winning
title at the world exhibition in Innsbruck last year, tells Birgit Larsen.
While she enjoys the sight of a litter of kittens she already has sold. |

...wild
they may seem to be,
the brown Kvilles Sine Peersdatter,
but the look lies. It’s as much loving
and affectionate as other cats... |

…as kitten, the
NFO
looks totally like an ordinary house cat,
but soon it will get both collar and a big shaggy tail...
A mass of
premium-rosettes and cups are proof of the success, Birgit and Palle
Larsen have had with their breed called Kville, since this couple got
their first
NFO 10years ago.
We have always had lots of animals in
our family, but strange enough no cats, even if my husband is grown up
among lots of house cats. When we 10years ago decided to moved into a
house, we decided to get a cat.. And after seeing the
NFO we definitely had no doubt,
says Birgit Larsen. |

With its half
long fur, that’s woolen and waterproof, the NFO
look a like a little "Lynx"
not at least due to the small hair tufts that bristle sweet from the big
ears. It also has strong claws, that are made for climbing. In addition is
the big, longhaired collar, that covers the chest and the long shaggy tail
is characteristic for the nfo, that in spite of its half long fur does not
need the big effort with comb and brush. The male weighs a couple more
kilos than the female that is more feminine. But anyway, if it’s a male or
a female, the nfo is unbelievable loving and fond of human company and
life. It feels happy without regard to if it lives with admission to or
inside a flat. The most important for the NFO
is the love and time that you have for it.

…one is very comfortable and well
satisfied even if one
originally
is from the tough woods in North,
says
Kvilles Pil Peersdatter... |

….a
NFO female is smaller and
more feminine as the male.
Here is the very new kitten mother
Kvilles Gyrite Hvide...
Inventing, intelligent, on duty and
awake, adaptable and brave are other qualities that is known for the
NFO that also
loves to play. Water and snow, it often plays with and fur-mice and
paper-balls it can enjoy occupying themselves for hours.
In our eyes, there does not exist a
more beautiful cat, and the interest for the nfo is growing day by day.
